The Keg Steakhouse: Consistency is all it needs

This year marks the fifth year since I first tried Keg. Keg’s reputation did not die down at all from what I can see. Reservation after 6pm during weekends was not allowed. And it seems like wisdom really does not come with ages; I decided to arrive at 7:00pm, right on time for supper. I waited a good hour before I had a table. Well, that is part of Keg’s experience!

All I was thinking was “this better worth my wait!” And quickly, this was answered by the attentive service and the exquisite steaks…

It felt adequate to eat some greens just before we moved onto the meat feast.

This spinach salad was nicely balanced with the sweetness of its toppings, which include strawberries, dried cranberries, candied pecans and red onion. The sweetness was also toned down by the Chardonnay vinagrette and goat cheese.

And it also seemed adequate to moisturize our esophagus with the aid of a French onion soup in anticipation of the merciless carnivorism. The soup was great at achieving its objective as it was rather watery. I would have preferred a richer base. More of the Parmesan cheese would be appreciated as well.

And here was the first steak for the dear Zuuchini Mama. A filet mignon wrapped in a bacon. Zuuchini Mama, usually a small protein eater, enjoyed the filet fully. It was cooked perfectly at medium rare.

And I had too much on my plate to even think of tasting Zuuchini Mama’s dish. My choice was Baseball top sirloin. Like the name suggests it, this steak was the size of a baseball.

Can you even imagine how beautifully cooked this was? It was exceptional! It was so very tender…so nicely seasoned. It was simply well handled in every aspect. I could barely eat half of it; there was just too much meat. A true steak eater would love this dish.

Mr.Butter had the prime rib. Although good, it could not be compared with my baseball top sirloin. Not even close. The flavors were created with Keg’s special spices. How special? Hmm…mediocre special. I would suggest this prime rib only if you especially love tender steak at its optimal.

After all these years, by no surprise, Keg maintained its top position as Steakhouse. Without a doubt, Keg is my number one place whenever steak craving is kicking in.
