It was my first experience with pupusas (Salvadorian cuisine). When I first stepped into the restaurant, I was greeted with the nice host/waiter. Since I told him it was my first time at the restaurant (and the menu was basically all in spanish…), he was very patient and thorough at explaining the menu.
Funny thing, we had to use Urbanspoon to locate the restaurant, so Mr.Butter had the page on on his Iphone when we were at the table. We thought it may be because that the host saw the screen that he was so friendly.
So friendly that he offered us nachos while we waited for our food.
I regret not bringing a proper camera….My phone camera really doesn’t give the food much justice. We ordered 4 different kinds of flavors. My favorite one has to be the cheese one 🙂
the “corn cake” you had is a called a tamal. Tamales are normally salty but I’ve never seen them served with cream… interesting.
Thank you for reminding me the name! So you had them before, but without anything poured on top of it?
Yes, the only tamales I’ve had were without the cream on top. Maybe it’s because I usually buy them from women who make them at home and then sell them at the farmer’s market but usually they have a meat filling that’s cooked in a red salsa or salsa verde, which makes it more moist.
