Communion: An ideal brunch

Communion: An ideal brunch

Communion situated in Old Port was on my to-go-to list for a while, but the occasion never came up until a recent invitation to taste their brunch menu.

With a DJ playing soft electro music on the terrace under the sun while enjoying my brunch, I couldn’t ask for more on a Sunday. It was the perfect way to spend my last day of the week.

I am a fresh juice junkie, so when I heard “fresh fruits smoothie”, my eyes opened wide with desire. This berries smoothie was delicious. Then again, how can a berries smoothie ever go wrong? It would have been nice if they could offer an option to add some greens in it. I’ll be the first one to vote for yes for the idea!

Eggs benedict on crabcake

The eggs benedict were so modest, yet so simply delicious. Very basic, but perfectly executed. The crabcake was like adding a cherry on top of a sundae. It was my first time seeing such a pairing, but it was an ingenious pairing! It added a luxury touch to the eggs benedict, but still remained very unpretentious.

The potatoes did not look perfect, but did taste perfect. Home style cooking, that’s how

English Breakfast

Evidently, Mr.Butter had his bacon, sausage and eggs for brunch. I was not keen at tasting the bacon, but was more so at trying the sausage. Mr.Butter insisted stating the bacon was like no other. I raised my brow and obeyed. For me, it tasted like any bacon, but 1mm thicker. However, the sausage was something else! The herbs and sweetness in the sausage really brought out rich flavors. There was also a blood pudding included in the dish. I usually love Chinese blood pudding, but I couldn’t learn to enjoy this specific one. It had a specific cakey/brownie texture and an acquired taste. Despite my experience, Mr.Butter thoroughly enjoyed the whole meal.

Only available during weekends, the brunch menu offers sweet, salty and healthy dishes. A wide spectrum to fit everyone’s palate. I especially liked how their brunch menu was simple, and not overloaded with choices. The last thing I wanted was to start my Sunday with some toughest decision of the day ( although I did contemplate their blueberries pancake…) . As well, I personally found the meals are very unpretentious. As descriptive as I could be, they were “in your face” kind of flavors. I felt at home!

Cheers!
