Hanok: Unexpected fried dumpling

Hanok: Unexpected fried dumpling

While I was visiting my sister in Vancouver, I requested quite a few demanding tasks. “Bring me to good Asian restaurants!!!” And of course, Korean food was part of the Asian restaurants I was referring to.

So my poor sister, with much pressure, brought to her most beloved Korean restaurant around the area, Hanok.

I happily strolled to my seat and looked around just to see a feast on every table. I could not contain my excitement and I was restless to start my feast! But the endless choices on the menu were causing some difficult decision making.

Since we were only three, I had to be reasonable and held myself from ordering excessively.

A little snapshot of the side dishes, which were delicious.

Tteokbokki

This had to be the most comprehensive Tteokbokki I’d ever tasted. It has fried dumplings and fish balls as well! I didn’t know that when I ordered it. To be honest, when I first looked at the fried dumpling, my mom and I were sort of repelled by its appearance. But surprisingly, they were incredibly delicious! Now, it would be quite a task to find one in Montreal in the same caliber.

Seafood pancake

The seafood pancake was visually enticing, but the contents were quite deceiving. There was little seafood and mostly batter. Although good, it was a seafood pancake and therefore, should have more seafood.

Pork bone soup

Koreans really know how to make their soup. Everytime I taste one, it is so exquisite. This was no exception. With one spoonful of rice and gently dip in the soup, I was in heaven. Something about the Korean soups that are so warming, nostalgic, and soulful. I swear this coming winter, I’ll indulge in Korean soups.

If Hunok is not the one of the top Korean restaurant in Vancouver, I cannot imagine how much better can it get!
