The restaurant that really impressed me with seafood was Kitchen Galerie Poisson. Sadly, it closed down. Since then, I couldn’t find a noteworthy candidate until as of late.
My friends chose Ikanos to try out their MTL a Table menu. Having not heard of it, I was skeptical and did not expect much. I came out of the place with much admiration.
The experience already started well before even stepping one foot in the premise. They have a open wide window peeking into their kitchen live action. I stared at the hardworking chef and I guess one felt amused and waved at me. I returned the wave. It is always nice to see the condition of the kitchen and the artist behind the plates.
The menu worked differently from other restaurant. Yes, it was 3 course dinner, but the last course was not dessert, instead it was the main. And, each service was to be shared with another person. Don’t fret, it was like a 2 in 1 for each course. 2 different meals were for each course, so really, we were getting 6 meals for 2 people. I loved this concept!
And of course, being a Greek restaurant specializing in fishes, their menu was mostly fishes. I was already excited for the dishes to come!
When the dishes rolled in, I could not contain my mouth from opening wide. It was breathtaking. Every bite was sumptuous. We had different type of seafood:
– Swordfish: My first time trying it and it was amazing. Thinly sliced served almost like sashimi.
– Spanish Macquerel: Grilled so well. You can only enjoy macquerel if you like the pungent taste of sea. Obviously, something that I like.
– Cod: Made into balls, it was definitely a new way for me to taste cod.
– Scallops: They were giant and meaty.
Because the first 2 courses were filled with seafood, we though we should opt for something different for the third course. What do you know! Ikanos is adept at cooking steak and lamb too. I am in love.
The smokiness in the rib eye steak was incomparable. I could taste it in every bite. Lamb stuffed in ravioli was also something new to me, and should not be my last time trying it either.
We simply could not end our dinner. It was just too good. It wouldn’t end well without desserts. Of course, we ordered desserts.
The Financier was not remarkable, but I especially adored the Loukoumades, which were honey donuts. Simple and hit right in the sweet spot.
And I should not forget to mention the unique cocktails: Loukhoum sour and Fig smash. Go ahead and order fig smash, you would thank me.
I urged anyone itching for some great fish to let Ikanos do you wonder.
