For a quick visit in Ottawa, Montreal Food Pictures highly recommended The SmoQue Shack. With statement like “we don’t have anything like it in Montreal”, I was sold. And there I go!
SmoQue offers a tasting menu perfect for those who want to try a bit of everything in their menu. The tasting menu allows to choose a few combinations of plates offered in the regular menu. Just what I needed!
For a BBQ lover, I can understand why someone would find SmoQue special, but I think this type of BBQ just isn’t my favorite. No doubt, the meat can be tasted that they were slowly smoked. They were tender, but the sauce just didn’t make it for me. The sweet and sour sauce which was also salty was too overpowering.
Ironically, I enjoyed wholeheartedly the side dishes. The Southern Style Green was a refreshing touch. They were greens that I don’t usually have. I believe they were chards (which after this, I bought chards to make my green juice). Crisp on the outside, the fried pickles were lovely as well! It was like eating like a fired mozzarella stick, but a “healthier” version. I surprisingly liked the corn bread as well. It looked so bland and simple, but just a nice touch of the sweetness from the corn was enough to make it delicious.
SmoQue is perfect for someone who loves BBQ. I wasn’t converted into one.
