Terra Mare must be my second restaurant in the west island. Since the menu price range was comparable to Keg’s (somehow that was the feeling that I had that it would be like a local keg-kind-of-restaurant), I was expecting a similar ambiance. Once I walked in, I was caught by surprise. The decor is nothing like what recent restaurant, where it is either hipster (think industrial light and wooden tables) or chic and modern (think of fancy decorations). I felt like I was back in time, in the early 90’s (although the restaurant is since 1976). I sort of miss that.
So how does the food compare to Keg’s?
Yes, this was my appetizer. A freaking cannelloni. Do not judge my choice. The “home made” description had me! It was a nice cannelloni where I felt I was at an Italian family home where the grandma made this for dinner. And obviously, it was filling and dinner just started.
Mr.Butter “chose” a healthy appetizer upon my request (I who was the one who wanted a pasta dish as appetizer was so logical). I liked everything except the shrimps. These Northern shrimps never appealed to me. They always taste like they have been frozen since Ice Age.
As the main course, Mr.Butter had his forever loving rack of lambs and it was the best choice. The lamb was so tender and nicely marinated. It was the way I would want it if I had to eat lamb for the rest of my life.
My adventurous side can be hard to contain sometimes. So when I saw the word “halibut” and “coconut” in one dish, nothing could stop me from picking it! I was hoping that this plate could spiritually teleport me to the Caribbean forgetting the never ending winter (mind you, I went to this restaurant one month ago where the weather was unforgiving). Sadly, this unique flavor dish failed me as the fish seemed 5 minutes overcooked. The hint of sweet taste from the coconut was nonetheless interesting.
This chocolate cake was sadly on the drier side. It was still lovely to have.
The creme brulee was the star of the dessert. Forego all desserts and have this! A classic flavor, a perfect smooth texture, it was a winner. I remember wanting a second one, but my guilt overcame my greediness.
Terra Mare is known for their seafood. Unfortunately, it is the “Terra” part of the name that I understand why this restaurant has been a local destination since its opening in 1976.
Spring has arrived and summer is just days away. So I took out my Lalavesi...
You know how I've always glorified Mikado as the BEST sushi place. Well, I think...
This mustard yellow painted restaurant cannot be missed while walking on Dundas. I quickly looked...
