Hof Kelsten: Bread supplier for the best restaurants

When you walk in and see the head chef of Les 400 coups ordering at the counter, you know you are at the right place.

Hof Kelsten is well known for their bread. As such, it became one of the major suppliers for top restaurants in the city. So don’t be surprised if the bread you ordered tastes exactly like last night’s dinner at some restaurant!

Going in at 2pm on a Sunday thinking that there could not possibly be much people, I was so wrong! I guess I was not the only one taking that assumption! The turnover was quick and did not die down either. I believe I stayed till 3:30pm. Most people left with a Panettone in their hands. If interested, visit their Panettone shop.

Other than pastries and bread you can order at the counter, sandwiches and brunches are also available. To conform with Sunday’s theme, I went for Smoked Mackerel (but really it was smoked trout). Mr.Butter had the Pain Dore. Both meals were delicious. I especially liked the kale salad that came with my smoked trout. It was very citrusy. The French toast from the Pain Dore were delicious!

For big appetite people like me, the brunch dish was definitely not enough (please note, my other companions actually said they were really full…no wonder my weight is gradually increasing).  So the answer was to order pastries! Of course, how could I possibly not?

Making a decision was unquestionably a hard one. So many choices… so little available calories intake. Two isn’t too outrageous right? Good thing I had Mr.Butter around!  So, my choices were Rugelash (hugely recommended by food blogger friends) and Suisse ( I actually wanted to try a Danoise but I guess they gave me the wrong one, oh well!). Both were buttery and indulgent. If I can describe Rugelash, this is my following description: A McDonald Apple pie but so much better. Let me know yours when you try it/if  you had tried it!
