With new developments in the sub urban area, more and more big franchise restaurants are taking up the commercial areas. Back in the days, small towns have commerce and residence all mismatched on the same street. Biking around with my group of friends a few years ago, we came across a restaurant situated on a purely residential area. Recently that restaurant came to my mind and I was wondering if it was still alive there. So I paid a visit and it sure was standing strong!
Not only is the location of Bohemia is particular, the restaurant is welly ornamented with Czech artifacts. My eyes were rolling all around the interior just to absorb everything. The interior transported to Czech Republic instantly.
This quaint restaurant only opens for breakfast and lunch. But I do believe that supper is an option if reserve in advance.
The menu is derived by traditional Czech cuisine, so knedliky is a must. A table d’hote is about 17, while just a main meal could cost around $12-16. For this type of cuisine, I would like to say the price is more than reasonable.
Mr.Butter and I both had a table d’hote and felt fully energized after the meal.
The soup was a great reminiscent of a welcoming grandma. The ingredients were simple, but it was so flavorful. A soup that will make anyone’s heart warm.
Mr.Butter had the Bohemian sausage served with potatoes. I personally found the sausage very ordinarily, but it was presented very beautifully.
I had goulash served with knedliky. The goulash was very tender and knedliky was a perfect side. People like to define knedliky as dumplings, but I don’t understand why. It is nothing like a dumpling. It is not stuffed. If anything, it looks more like a Chinese steamed bun. Very moist. It pairs well with any liquid dish (stew/soup). I also enjoyed the sauerkraut. I did not ask if it’s made in house…but nonetheless. it was very delicious!
We were then spoiled with a raspberry cake. I was not sure what kind of cake it was, but it reminded me of a raspberry muffin from Tim’s Hortons. Very tart, which I very enjoyed.
I’m already looking forward for my next return to Bohemia. I want to try their trout and rabbit dish! Not to mention any names, but this little gem is also regarded as gems for some players too! 🙂
