Shopping around Dix30, I cannot help but notice this restaurant at the heart of the Square. With its thousand warm tone lights pertrubing beaming through the windows, Le Sociale easily attracts a lovely and dynamic crowd.
It was a perfect place to have a long conversation with a friend, which is exactly what happened during my visit.
The menu offers a well-balanced number of dishes. Tapas were the most predominant, which suited the occasion  beautifully.
We had 3 tapas that evening. Grilled octopus was one of the 3 tapas we had. Continue Reading…
Laval officially has its own Juliette et Chocolat! This chocolate bar is conveniently situated in Centropolis, a walking distance away from millions of restaurants, perfect after dinner.
Juliette et Chocolat is no stranger to me. I have always enjoyed their ivoire brownie, which is my favorite! The grand opening allowed me to taste other delicacies. By the end of the night, I was overdosed, which is exactly the statement Juliette et Chocolat is aiming for.
The richness of chocolate could be tasted in every bite. It is easy to understand why we love Juliette et chocolate so dearly.
When I received the invitation to Bolo Bolo’s grand opening, I was caught by surprise due to the great resemblance to my last life blog name – Boulou Boulou. For the whole story, please read it here.
Bolo Bolo specialized in meatballs. When I learned that, I wasn’t to keen on going to the grand opening, but I knew Mr.Butter would be interested. And, I wasn’t wrong. 🙂
For some unexplained reason, I was expecting another hipster restaurant with industrial decor everywhere. I’m not against that concept, but it seems overplayed. Bolo Bolo must have sensed my expectation, and surprised me with its laid-back concept. If I could describe this place with my utmost capability, I would say it is the modern version of McKibbins Irish Pub. Why? A play with modernized drinks and more importantly, a live band. Yes, the live band sold me. I hope it is a concept that would remain after the grand opening.
Disregarding everything, how’s the food – especially from a point of view of a non-meatball fan. I am being very unbiased and fair. The meatballs are FANTASTIC. Bolo Bolo has successfully converted me into a meatball head.
On the other hand, the drinks didn’t win my heart. Their special cocktails were merely a novelty; I wouldn’t order a second one.
Hocus Pocus
Unlike how the name states it, it wasn’t magical at all.
Mac n cheese balls.
These deep fried mac n cheese shaped in a ball were delicious. They were perfectly fried – not too hard and not too soft that the content were droopy. Knowing how difficult I am with deep fried food, a regular reader would understand these balls were incredible.
Le negroni deconstruit
When I said the drinks were merely a novelty, I was especially thinking of Le Negroni deconstruit. Sure, the presentation was fresh and unique. But I would describe it as an IKEA drink. You have to “build” the drink. After the first time, I found the “building” steps unnecessary.
Pork meatballs
These meatballs were tenderly juicy. Hitting all the checklist of a perfect meatball. Although it wasn’t a fancy meatball, the fact that it was a simple traditional meatball in tomato sauce showed how Bolo Bolo really knew how to cook their meatballs.
Smokin’Hot Bloody with a Ball
A very brilliant drink. If you are starving and can’t wait for main meals to be served, order this drink because it has a meatball! The meatball was actually very delicious!
Sweet Mexico
The star of the picture isn’t the margarita, but the fries. Damn those fries got me hooked. They were nicely crispy and spiced. Like chips but slightly thicker. One more word, addictive.
I have to thank Bolo Bolo to have completely changed my mind on meatballs. No doubt, they are the meatball specialist in town!
I would like to add that that Bolo Bolo opens till 4 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Yes, finally! I went to visit my cousin, which means Benny poutine time!
So why am I so overly excited for this specific Benny? The reason is: It seriously beats all other Benny’s poutine!
This Benny is very far, but it never disappoints me. Here are some pictures to show its glory:
This is my definition of the perfect poutine! It has to have crispy fries, squeaky cheese curds and mild gravy.
While the other Benny always have the fries too soaked in the sauce, the Benny at Saint-Felix-de-Valois has mastered the perfect balance between the level of sauce and the level of crispiness of the fries.
Do I need to say more? I’m drooling by simply looking at the pictures.
Zuuchini
Hullo everyone!
Summer is quickly fading away. We don’t have much warm days left nor much days left to have a lobster roll at Old Port! Muvbox, famous for their lobster, is operating its last days of the year. Â So if you are craving for a little guidille, better run!
As for me, I had my lobster in a perfect summer evening. Not a foreign practice in my reviews, the pictures were forgotten in some folder and consequently, I am late in my reviews.
To enjoy Muvbox’s lobsteroll you must first of all:
1. Love lobster
2. Don’t mind the very mayonnaise and green tasting dressing
3. Don’t mind hefty price
The price is justified by the quantity of lobster in a roll – I would like to say at least 2 claws. The meat was utterly fresh, but the dressing didn’t do it for me. If you like mayonnaise and very green tasting (as in a mix of celery and green onions – that were what I tasted), then this is your lobster roll.
As for the clam chowder… I was too spoiled by my Oregon trip a few years ago where I tasted the best clam chowder. So this clam chowder at Muvbox was lacking in the savory department. But definitely a great soup for the upcoming chilly evenings.
Happy lobster roll!
