Charcos being just next to the H building, as a student, I would usually walk by it. Ironically, it’s only after my student-life (for now…who knows when will I return for some tune up) I walked into this place craved by Mr.Butter on his actual birthday.
While waiting for the chicken slowly roasting over the charcoal, I looked around and couldn’t help but feel nostalgic and old. The atmosphere is needless to say very student friendly. With a bit of waiting time ( I guess because it’s evening, the serving time isn’t as quick as lunchtime), my meal was finally ready!
My platter meal had a quarter leg with a choice of 2 sides dishes. Now that I see the picture, the quarter leg looks tiny. But from my memory, it was bigger than this. Sometimes, picture can be misleading. Being famished, I essentially inhaled my food. But that did not impose any bias on my opinion of the chicken. I wasn’t impressed at all. The flavor was lacking especially the charcoal smell/taste. The red sauce slapped on the chicken did not help either. Thankfully, the chicken was not dry. I actually preferred the fries and the salad over the chicken.
Mr. Butter had fried chicken and he took his sweet time enjoying it. He looked satisfied although not flabbergasted. I had a taste and could only think it surpasses KFC. But it wasn’t able to achieve my dream-fried-chicken experience where the skin has to keep its crispiness with a crunch sound when I bite it off and the meat moist and tender coming off with the skin.
Thank you Charcos for reminding me how much I love my mom’s grilled chicken!
