Cacao 70 – Take TWO!

This is my second visit at Cacao 70. My first review can be found here.

The main purpose of my second visit is to try out their waffles!!

Sadly, their waffles are not as impressive as their pizza. Their waffles are in the harder side. I still haven’t found a place that serves better waffles than Breakfast Club!!

We also ordered a cheesecake a la Cacao 70 style. Quite unique and interesting…If you like more mousse type of cake, this cake is for you. Personally, I like more solid cake, especially for my cheesecake. Interesting concept, but not my cup of tea…

If i go back, I’ll definitely stick to the pizza….

Jardin Nelson

Just like the name states. this restaurant makes you feel like you’re inside a garden. Sure the environment was nice – live jazz band, flowers, exposed to exterior weather. Just perfect environment.

But the food was not up to par to the ambiance at all! Maybe I ordered the wrong food…but we were 3 to order the wrong food? The food was nothing spectacular…I even dare to say, a bit below average.

We were 3 starving beasts, that haven’t eaten supper and it was 9pm. I would believe that we were be biased since we were obviously gonna find any food GREAT at this starvation mode. But no…food not good at all.

Kuljit India – Rectification!

My previous experience with Indian cuisine was not that great, but it quickly got rectified! Kuljit India totally satisfied my craving for Indian food.

It’s operated by this very friendly family, where the wife is the host/server.

There are many choices available in the menu with very reasonable pricing.

Remember to order quite a few naan breads as the sauce is sooo good! The food was not spicy if I remembered correctly – but Im sure this could be easily changed if you ask for very spicy for your dishes.

To the right – Beef curry

Indian dessert that I can never find a way to appreciate them…

Bonaparte – May lose my favorite spot…

Ever since my first time in Bonaparte in February 2011, I returned there 2 more times. And fortunately, this time i remember to take pictures. Ever since my first trip there, it became my favorite French restaurant.

Why?

The price is very reasonable – that is if you know how to order. You do not go to Bonaparte and just order separately your courses – or even worse, go for only for a course. You go there because you have at least 2 hours to spare while enjoying your evening with your favorite companion and eating about 3 to 6 courses. Yes, i said it right! 6 courses! With about 6 courses, each course would cost you about 10$. It is really fairly priced – with the service, ambiance and location (Old port).

The staff is incredibly professional, but my family has noticed something different. It seems like the staff have changed. It used to be older group of staff where their patience and service were to finest point, where I would feel I was in a 5 star restaurant (coat check, and someone helping me to wear my coat…). Not to be mistaken that their staff isn’t as good….but let’s just say it’s missing the additional points to make it unforgettable experience.

The food as well does not compare to my previous visits – somehow we just feel that there may be a change of management sadly…the decor as well has slightly shifted, which is very awkward because they are trying to make it a bit more modern, while the whole factor of the ambiance of the restaurant is the old French decor…

Apart all the above mentioning parts, I am still satisfied with the experience but let just say I was not as blown away as my last two… Maybe I become more and more demanding?

2 types of bread

Lobster soup – very rich lobster flavour but I did not like it much

Foie de gras served in creme brule style – very delicious

Ravioli stuffed with mushroom – delicious as well

Escargots with the crispy flakes – perfect harmony

Pear sorbet – before we jump into our main course, our tastebuds are cleansed with this light sorbet

Lamb racks – It was good but i think they make their ducks even tastier therefore I would suggest for the duck instead

Veal

The mini tasting of several desserts – i only liked the creme brule and the chocolate one – i heard the place is famous for their key lime pie….(they used to serve Souffle as well, not sure if they still do)

Thali – Not with the majority

I went to Thali about 2 months ago as my friend and I were both craving for Indian food and according to my friend’s circle of people, Thali serves  AWESOME food. and apparently, great online reviews as well!

I went in with great excitement – dying to try new food as I see so many pastry-like food being displayed at the counter.

I was SO deceived. So was my friend.

It’s nothing near awesome. and nothing near generous portion.

Their butter chicken was horrible, nearly tasteless. This applies for the curry as well. The naan bread was passable.

I really don’t understand why so many positive reviews…

But then I was told by another source that I shouldn’t have ordered the plates where I could choose – that i should have gone for their “wrap?”. Maybe next time….but really not anytime soon…yes, it is THAT disappointing…

It wasn’t satisfying at all! I was still craving for Indian food after that – and sadly, it wasn’t because it was so amazingly good.
