Sai Gwan – Hong Kong street food discovered in Montreal!

Yes! It is true! I was introduced by my sister this hidden little gem in Chinatown! I swear I would not have stepped in if I passed by this restaurant – or passing by is even questionable…Why?

It’s at the end of the street of gauchetiere (near the st-laurent side) and it looks very…run-down.

But..it’s always these places where you find the best stuff!!!

Why is this restaurant so special? It servers curry fish balls and steamed rice noodle rolls with all that goody sauces! And they taste delicious!!

Sooooo affordable!! And when you get there, don’t forget to order their red bean soup dessert! It is soooooooo gooood. One of the best ones.

I can’t wait to go back and try more of their stuffs (or simply go for their steamed rice noodle rolls again!!). Less reason to go to Toronto now!

Steamed rice noodle rolls with all the different sauces

Curry fish balls – could be more richer

Fried fish balls

Fried buns with condensed sweetened milk – the bun would be nice if they aren’t that soaked in oil in the inside but still goood! (bit biased cuz in general, i just love this food)

Red bean soup dessert – sooo rich in flavour! Not watery at all! Just perfect!

Marven’s

Mr. Butter brought me to one of his favorite restaurant a while ago – Marven’s. As a south shore resident, I would have never known this little gem as it is located in some residential area of Parc.

What surprises me was that although we arrived there at 10pm…it was still fully pack!! What!

Overlooking the cleanliness of the place and service (let’s say it could be a bit better but it is not horrible either), the food was great and were given in HUGE portion!

It has been a while I haven’t enjoyed Greek cuisine this much!

Oh and, don’t forget to ask for the Marven special sauce!! It is a magical sauce! It makes everything 10x better!

Even the salad was good! ok…i don’t know if my extreme hunger sort of affected my judgement there

The infamous calamari dish! They are sooo generous with their portion! This appetizer can be shared between 6 people easily! I like how they are not overly deep fried!

Lamb…It was good. But it was slightly too burnt for my taste although Mr. Butter loved it that way.

And a wrap – which i forgot which meat i took…It was sooo goood. But I was so full and so overwhelmed by the amount of food served to us.

I swear…every plate could be shared by at least 2 people!!!

Zibo!

Zibo has become one of my favorite restaurants to go to in Dix30. Although some may consider it slightly pricey, but for the ambiance, the service and quality of food. I think the price is fair.

Plus, their desserts are incredibly delicious!

Qing Hua: dumpling as good as home-made?

No doubt, my favorite dumplings are the ones we made at home. From the dough to “folding” the dumpling together.

But, I came across Qing Hua which specializes in dumplings with all kinds of flavours! I am a dumpling loooover and I really approve of this place. Really close to the dumplings I make at home.

I highly suggest the fried pan ones and then the steamed ones. Fried ones cost 1.50$ more, if I remember correctly! But it’s worth it 🙂 And the pork filling ones are especially good (or maybe i’m just used to eat my dumplings with pork meat…)

The appetizers could be passed…They are just average.

I would definitely come back for this place when my family is too lazy to make some dumplings and that i am craving for dumplings BIG TIME!

Poutineville: the name that misleads

My favorite fast food? Poutine, it has to be!

Ever since I heard about the restaurant Poutineville, I had been dying to try it! But that’s how far the exitement gets….because once I had my poutine at Poutineville…my excitement dies down.

No, it does not taste horrible. But it is just your average poutine. Nothing special (other than that sauce with wine and home-made smashed potato you can opt for your poutine).

I chose the one with Italian sausage and hot pepper.
